On March 16 Alistair Lexden was visited at the Lords by a star group of students from a niumber of different countries who are being prepared for university entrance at Bosworth Independent College in Northampton, one of the constituent members of the Council for Independent Education (CIFE), of which he is President.
He congratulated them on winning the CIFE Challenge, now in its second year, which is organised along the lines of the well-known University Challenge. They told him of stiff oppposition from other CIFE colleges which they had faced, and finally overcome, at an-all day trial of wits and knowledge held at the New College of the Humanities in London on February 27.
The visit gave the prize-winners an opportunity to watch oral question time from the gallery of the Lords chamber and to discuss the role of the House in our constitutional affairs.
