On 1 November members of the Carlton Club joined representatives of the Peel Society to mark the 180th anniversary of the foundation of the Club by Sir Robert Peel, who became Conservative leader two years later, and others.
Because of his extensive experience as an editor who always insisted on clear plain English, Lord Lexden was asked in July by Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, to help ensure that his department handles the correspondence it receives effectively and provides replies of a good standard.
In his capacity as Co-Chairman of the Conservative History Group, Lord Lexden held discussions on August 17 with its new Director, Mr Stephen Parkinson, who is expanding its activities in association with its new Deputy Director, Mr Adrian Harris.
